in one go

He stares ahead: ‘I don’t have any beautiful moments.’ ‘Why not?’ I ask. ‘It’s in my job
description to be miserable. I’m a busking poet.’ Every day David occupies the same spot
on K-road in Auckland. Next to him his poem books are on display. He’s stamping new
covers. A friend drops by, greets him and gives him a sandwich. ‘People often think I’m
homeless, but I’m not. I have my car. That’s where I live. The last six months it hasn’t been
working properly, but today it started in one go.’
